Bluevine virtual address rules: what Bluevine accepts and rejects
If you are applying for a Bluevine Business Checking account (banking services provided by Coastal Community Bank, Member FDIC), Bluevine's official application checklist draws a bright line on two address types: P.O. boxes and Registered Agent addresses are not accepted and will prevent you from opening an account. At the same time, Bluevine explicitly states that if you work from home, a home address is accepted as your business's physical location. What about a virtual mailbox (CMRA)? Bluevine's public application guide does not mention CMRAs or virtual mailboxes by name—so this guide separates what Bluevine explicitly bans, what federal CIP rules require, and how to set up your addresses safely.
Short version (Bluevine Help Center, checked October 27, 2026)
❌ Explicitly banned by Bluevine: P.O. boxes and Registered Agent addresses as your business physical address. Bluevine warns across all entity types that either one "will prevent you from opening an account."
✅ Explicitly accepted by Bluevine: Your home street address (if you work out of your home) or your physical business location.
⚠️ Unstated on Bluevine's checklist: Bluevine's public document checklist does not use the words "CMRA" or "virtual mailbox," but asks for "your business' physical address" / "physical location of your business" and must comply with 31 CFR 1020.220 CIP rules. Do not enter a virtual mailbox as your physical address without asking Bluevine support first.
💳 Debit card shipping: Bluevine notes your verified home address can also be selected as the mailing address to activate your Bluevine Business Debit Mastercard®.
Bluevine's address fields by role
In Bluevine's What documents are required to apply for a Business Checking account? guide (checked October 27, 2026), every application collects two core address blocks:
| Application section | Who must provide it | What Bluevine's checklist says | Virtual mailbox / RA / PO Box policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part 1: Business physical address | All entity types (LLC, Corporation, LLP, Partnership, Sole Proprietorship, Nonprofit) | Must be the "business' physical address" or "physical location of your business." Home address is accepted if you work out of your home. | Rejects P.O. boxes and Registered Agent addresses ("will prevent you from opening an account"). CMRA / virtual mailbox is not named on this page; physical location required. |
| Part 2: Applicant home address | The primary applicant opening the account | Full legal name, personal phone, and home address (may differ from the business physical address; include apartment or suite number). Can also be selected as the mailing address for the Bluevine Business Debit Mastercard®. | Must be your residential home address (verified alongside SSN, date of birth, and a photo of your valid driver's license). |
| Additional Owners (25%+ ownership) | Each additional owner holding 25% or more of an LLC, corporation, LLP, or partnership (or controlling persons of a nonprofit) | Requires full legal name, home address, date of birth, SSN, ownership percentage, and photo of driver's license. | Must be each 25%+ owner's residential home address. |
What Bluevine's help center says (exact quotes)
Every quote below was copied directly from Bluevine's What documents are required to apply for a Business Checking account? help center page on October 27, 2026:
1. Corporation, LLC, or LLP physical address rule
"Legal business name, address, and phone number: Please provide the exact legal business name as registered with your Secretary of State, as well as your business' physical address and phone number. If you work out of your home, a home address and phone number will be accepted. P.O. boxes and Registered Agent addresses are not accepted and will prevent you from opening an account."
2. Sole proprietorship physical address rule
"Address and phone number: We'll also need your business' physical location and primary phone number. If you work out of your home, you can give us your home address and phone number. We cannot accept Registered Agent addresses or P.O. boxes, and they'll prevent you from opening your account."
3. Owner home address and Debit Mastercard delivery
"Name, home address, and phone number: Please provide your full legal name and personal phone number. Your home address may differ from the physical address where you operate your business. Be sure to include your apartment or suite number if applicable. This information helps us identify you and can also be selected as the mailing address for your Bluevine Business Debit Mastercard® for activation."

| Institution | Address field | Verdict | What the source says | Source (checked) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bluevine Bank / fintech | Business physical address | Physical address required (CMRA not named) | Bluevine's application checklist asks for the business's physical address (home address accepted) and says P.O. boxes and registered agent addresses are not accepted and will prevent the account from opening. The page we read does not mention CMRAs or virtual mailboxes by name. Ask Bluevine before using one.“P.O. boxes and Registered Agent addresses are not accepted and will prevent you from opening an account.” | Bluevine Help: What documents are required to apply October 27, 2026 |
| Federal bank Customer Identification Program rule (31 CFR 1020.220) Regulation | Address banks must collect | Physical address required (CMRA not named) | U.S. banks' CIP must collect, for an individual, a residential or business street address, and for a non-individual (corporation, partnership, trust), a principal place of business, local office or other physical location. This is why bank KYC asks for a physical address in addition to any mailing address.“For a person other than an individual (such as a corporation, partnership, or trust), a principal place of business, local office, or other physical location” | eCFR: 31 CFR 1020.220 October 27, 2026 |
What Bluevine doesn't state about CMRAs (and why CIP matters)
Notice what is stated and what is unstated on Bluevine's public application guide:
- What is explicitly stated: P.O. boxes and registered agent addresses are banned as your business physical address and will prevent your account from opening. Working from home and entering your home address is explicitly welcomed.
- What is unstated: The public page we read does not use the phrase "Commercial Mail Receiving Agency (CMRA)" or "virtual mailbox."
- Why you still shouldn't put a virtual mailbox in the physical-address field: Bluevine asks specifically for the "physical location of your business", and its partner bank must comply with the federal Customer Identification Program rule (31 CFR § 1020.220), which requires collecting "a principal place of business, local office, or other physical location." Furthermore, USPS's Delivery Point Validation (DPV) CMRA table flags virtual mailbox street addresses regardless of whether you write "Suite" or "PMB." Since Bluevine already accepts your home address as your physical business address, using your real home or office for Bluevine KYC avoids unnecessary application denials.
Entity-by-entity requirements (LLC, Corp, Partnership, Sole Prop)
Alongside your physical business address and owner home addresses, Bluevine's checklist specifies the exact documents required for each entity structure:
- LLC, Corporation, or LLP: Requires an IRS Employer Identification Number (EIN—Bluevine notes that "other forms of Tax IDs won't suffice for our application right now" for corporations, LLCs, or LLPs), Articles of Organization / Certificate of Formation (or Articles of Incorporation), and driver's license photos + home addresses for all 25%+ owners.
- General or Limited Partnership: Requires EIN or TIN (plus state DBA documentation if using a TIN), a signed Partnership Agreement outlining management structure and profit shares, and details for all 25%+ partners.
- Sole Proprietorship: Allows an EIN/TIN or personal SSN (only one account per SSN at a time), photo of a valid driver's license (all four corners visible), and a county/state DBA / Trade Name Certificate if operating under a trade name.
Bluevine vs. Relay vs. Mercury on virtual addresses
If your LLC's formation documents list a registered agent address (for example, in Delaware or Wyoming), here is how Bluevine compares with Relay and Mercury:
- Bluevine: Has a single business physical-address prompt where P.O. boxes and Registered Agent addresses are rejected outright, and explicitly tells home-based owners to enter their home address.
- Relay: Splits the address into a legal address (where a Registered Agent address is explicitly allowed) and an operating address (where your home or office is required and virtual mailboxes/P.O. boxes/RAs are banned).
- Mercury: Splits the address into legal, physical (day-to-day), owner home, and card mailing fields, banning virtual mailboxes and CMRAs across all verification fields while accepting a home address as the physical address.
Virtual mailbox providers for general LLC mail
While you should use your real home or office address as your physical business address on Bluevine's application, a virtual mailbox (with a completed USPS Form 1583) is still the standard tool for keeping your home address off vendor invoices, public websites, IRS Form SS-4 Line 4 correspondence, and Stripe customer receipts. Here is how the top providers compare from their official pricing pages:
| Provider | Entry plan | From (per month) | Included | Opening & scanning | Registered agent add-on | Source (checked) |

Frequently asked questions
Can I use a registered agent address or P.O. box to open a Bluevine account?
No. Bluevine's application requirements page states across all entity types (LLC, corporation, partnership, sole proprietorship, and nonprofit): 'P.O. boxes and Registered Agent addresses are not accepted and will prevent you from opening an account.'
Does Bluevine accept a home address as the business physical address?
Yes. Bluevine explicitly states: 'If you work out of your home, a home address and phone number will be accepted.' Your home address may be the same as or different from your business physical address.
Does Bluevine's public help center mention CMRA or virtual mailbox addresses by name?
The Bluevine application checklist we reviewed ('What documents are required to apply for a Business Checking account?', checked October 27, 2026) explicitly bans P.O. boxes and Registered Agent addresses and asks for the 'physical location of your business,' but does not use the terms 'CMRA' or 'virtual mailbox.' Because Bluevine's partner bank (Coastal Community Bank) is bound by the federal Customer Identification Program rule (31 CFR 1020.220) requiring a physical location, do not enter a virtual mailbox as your physical business address without confirming with Bluevine support first.
Whose home addresses must be provided on a Bluevine LLC or corporate application?
You must provide your own full legal name, home address (including apartment or suite number), phone number, date of birth, SSN, and photo of your valid driver's license, plus the same information for every additional owner holding 25% or more of the business.
Where does Bluevine mail the Bluevine Business Debit Mastercard?
Bluevine's application guide notes that the home address you provide 'can also be selected as the mailing address for your Bluevine Business Debit Mastercard for activation,' or you can ship to your business address or manage shipping details in your dashboard.
What business formation documents does Bluevine require for an LLC?
For an LLC, Bluevine requires your Employer Identification Number (EIN)—other forms of Tax IDs won't suffice for corporations, LLCs, or LLPs—along with your Articles of Organization, Certificate of Organization, or Certificate of Formation.
How can I use a virtual mailbox alongside a Bluevine Business Checking account?
Use your real physical workspace or home street address on the Bluevine application to satisfy physical-location KYC and avoid triggering a registered-agent or P.O.-box rejection. Then use your virtual mailbox for public-facing LLC correspondence, vendor invoices, IRS Form SS-4 Line 4 mail, and check scanning.
